GOURMET LUNCH & GLACIERS IN EL CALAFATE

An exclusive full day visit to Los Glaciares National Park including sights of the three main glaciers, a hike into the woods and a gourmet meal on board.

This experience proposes not only plowing through the Lago Argentino cool turquoise waters sailing in front of 50 meter high ice walls, millenary deep blue ices and majestic icebergs; but also enjoying a delicious gourmet lunch, hiking into the woods inside the Spegazzini Canal and visiting Upsala, Spegazzini and Perito Moreno glaciers in just one day.

In the morning, the elegant cruise María Turquesa greets us on board to cross the Lago Argentino. Personalized attention and excellent service is guaranteed while enjoying the landscapes from any of its two interior decks or four exterior ones.

Leaving a private port in Puerto Bandera, the cruise heads northwest towards Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo. Crossing the icebergs barrier, we get really close to the Spegazzini glacier, the highest in the national park with 135 meters ice walls. We disembark at Las Vacas station for a guided interpretive hike with a view of the old Settlers’ Station.

Back on board, we visit the Upsala Canal and navigate to Herminita Peninsula, enjoying panoramic views of the namesake Glacier. During this stretch of the navigation we have our gourmet lunch. On both levels, an exquisite meal is served:  a four-step tasting menu for passengers on the Premium deck, and a gourmet box lunch at the Classic tier (see general information below for detailed menus).

In the afternoon we navigate to Canal de los Témpanos on to the last glacial visit of the day: the world famous Perito Moreno; the perfect ending for this memorable journey before getting back to port.

We recommend this full day adventure as a complement to the traditional mini-trekking or Perito Moreno walkways, as it provides a different view of this colossal glacier.

YACHTING THROUGH THE BEAGLE CANAL

There are always memorable activities when traveling, and this is certainly one not to be missed.

This time we get the chance to go across the beautiful city of Ushuaia by sea, on board an enchanting petit yacht.

Setting sail from the local tourist dock along with the captain and a bilingual sailor and guide, we set course towards the Beagle Canal aboard Yate Tango, a cozy and very welcoming little yacht. We navigate in the direction of Alice Island to watch sea lions in their natural habitat.

Then, we continue to the Birds Island, where the king and imperial cormorants inhabit with seagulls and other bird species, typical of the landscape of these latitudes.

We begin to see the mythical Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, one of the most representative icons of Ushuaia, which was first operated on December 23rd, 1920, and that still works today. We get close enough to take beautiful pictures.

On the way back, we stop at Bridges Island for a short hike, discovering the flora and fauna of the surroundings thanks to our guide.

As we also see archeological rests, we learn about the Yamanas – the aborigines who settled here many years ago. We realize how difficult was for them to live on these hostile lands and it’s amazing to learn how they were able to adapt and survive for so long.

During the whole navigation, on board we share snacks, warm tea, hot chocolate and coffee, biscuits and -of course- mate.

Yate Tango offers an intimate navigation experience, where laughter and anecdotes will be shared between a small group of people. This is such a fun and special tour that we´ve been told that friendship emerges and that no one wants to get off in the end!

  • Two daily departures: 10 am and 3 pm.
  • From December to February, one more departure at 7 pm.

Península Valdés Adventure

A thrilling close encounter with Patagonian nature and marine wildlife.

Península Valdés is a natural reserve in the Patagonia, located on the Atlantic coastline. It is renowned for the marine fauna that inhabits its beaches and surrounding waters, such as whales, penguins and many other seabird species, sea lions and elephant seals. Few places offer the possibility to observe so many animals in their natural habitat; this is a true and unique wildlife reservoir in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

For the chance to appreciate the abundant local fauna, we recommend our featured product “Peninsula Valdés Adventure”, tour that stands out from others because of the variety and quality of experiences included.

The first adventure of the day takes us to Estancia San Lorenzo, a pioneer sheep ranch located on the coastline of the San Matias gulf and 160 km away from Puerto Madryn.

This working ranch not only produces Australian merino sheep wool but it is also the home of a 600.000 Magellanic penguin colony, which brings us to this spot. On a 4×4 Overland truck we will reach the reserve and then trek towards the rookery, guided by naturalist guides. This may be the closest you will ever be of a penguin. Without altering their habitat, we will pass by and observe them.

Then, we will hop back on the 4×4 truck and go through the Cañadón de Fósiles, a fossil canyon witness of a million year history.

After the active part of the tour, we will get back to the estancia and enjoy an exquisite lamb on the spit in the old shearing barn, which was reconditioned to serve as a country restaurant, visitor centre and mini shop for local products and ranch souvenirs.

To finish the day, a 2 hour boat ride at sunset in Puerto Pirámides to watch Southern Right whales jumping and swimming around for the best pictures you could ever take. If we´re lucky, maybe these huge and majestic cetaceans will just pass us by so close to almost reach them. As close a you can be of wildlife itself.

For nature lovers, discover Patagonian marine fauna and fossil history as in no other place in Argentina.
