Full day trekking in Cuesta del Obispo

A hike where nature, culture and history combine for those active and adventurous travellers looking for an unforgettable experience in Northern Argentina.

Leaving Salta in southern direction, you will pass by Cerrillos and El Carril towns, turning West towards Chicoana until Quebrada de Escoipe. On the way, you will be able to see diverse species of cacti and a colorful and rocky landscape.

After the two-hour trip, at paraje Margarita the group will take a local bus ascending through Cuesta del Obispo,  reaching the access to the National Park Los Cardones. The hike begins here, descending through Valle Encantado (Enchanted Valley), a natural sanctuary for the Salteños. Following a red dirt path surrounded by exuberant vegetation and multicolor rocks, the walk will provide an extraordinary scenery of natural colours and strange shapes sculpted on the rock through the years by rain and wind. It is said that walking through this path is like walking on the clouds, since there is a pond between high meadows and red rock formations where the clouds almost touch the ground.

On the way, you might also spot majestic Condors flying in their natural habitat.

Nature, history and culture combine in this hike. The highlights are definitely the incredible and colorful scenery above the clouds and the breathtaking views of Cuesta del Obispo whilst exploring Los Cardones.

World’s End minitrekking

Enjoy the World’s End at Tierra del Fuego National Park, the last Patagonian forest of the continent.

The journey begins with a 12 km drive on the National Route No. 3 towards the southwest, making a few stops to enjoy panoramic views of the Beagle Channel, the Ushuaia Peninsula and the Bridges Archipelago.

A few kilometres later, we enter the Tierra del Fuego National Park: a 68.909 hectare conservation area for the protection of Subantarctic forest and native wildlife. Only 2000 ha of its southern end are open to the public since the rest of the park is considered as a strict reserve. This is one of the few Argentine national parks with a sea coast and valleys with glacial rivers and lakes.

The first hike in the park begins at the trailhead of Mirador LapataIa. Approximately after 40 minutes, we reach the path’s end at a paleo-fiord. This is where the famous Pan-American Highway –which starts in Alaska- ends.

The next stop is Roca Lake, a binational waterbody divided between Argentina and Chile, followed by the last stretch of the journey at Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay. Here we shortly sail through the Beagle Channel on an RIB boat, where it is possible to watch a diversity of native shorebirds.

The boat arrives to Redonda Island, where the last 40 minute hike takes place through one of the most pristine areas ever, surrounded by cinnamon and coihue forests.

Northern countryside relax at Amalinas Hotel

Relax, high comfort and trendy design surrounded by the beautiful yunga landscape awaits only 15 minutes away from Salta’s downtown.

Settled in Castellanos, nearby Villa San Lorenzo, Amalinas Hotel combines a relaxed countryside location with the urban comfort, ideal for self drive travellers visiting Salta.

Amalinas Hotel-36

This new hotel opened last May and greeted us with incredible mountain views from any standing point, thanks to the large windows thoughtfully placed and the outside gallery and garden. We immediately appreciated a relaxed and enlightened environment, powered by the exuberant vegetation that surrounds us.

amalinas_room

We have been told that Amalinas’ semi-urban conceptual aesthetic was originated by the hotel’s location, given it is encircled by wild nature but only a few minutes away from the city’s cultural and historical center. The idea was to “contemplate the yunga from a designer chair”. To represent this merged concept, the hotel was constructed using wood, stone, aluminum and glass. These materials are appreciated in the ten rooms available, distributed along the two story building, all of them equipped with designer furniture.

Amalinas Hotel-91

Ideal to contemplate the panoramic view, all the rooms on the first floor have a balcony. From our suite on this floor, we saw a peculiar detail that charmed us: the gallery’s green roof in bloom with typical plants from the area, a view that blends with the yunga’s natural background. This can also be seen looking up from the hotel’s garden, where you can relish and settle back in the climatized pool or outdoor jacuzzi.

Another detail which is typical from northern houses, are the color limestones applied in the bathrooms, which were specially made for the hotel. This gives a homey and warmer touch to the room’s environment.

Amalinas Hotel-72

Buffet breakfast was served at Amalinas’ Resto Bar, where we sat at one of the tables in the outside gallery to enjoy the view. The restaurant is open for the four meals and it includes distinguished dishes prepared by recognised regional chefs, a variety of wines and cocktail drinks and also patisserie and coffee for the afternoon.

For its location, relaxed environment and design, Amalinas Hotel is ideal for self drive travellers around our North, that look for a high comfort countryside experience close to the city highlights. Contact our Account Executives for more information about this hotel.

Open fire cooking class in Mendoza

Imagine yourself by the fire, surrounded by the vineyards, a glass of Malbec in your hand and learning the secret tricks of a local Chef to cook Argentinean specialties and taste them afterwards.

At Finca Adalgisa in Mendoza, Chef Cristina Brino teaches how to prepare local traditional dishes that can be easily made at home.

index04_Cooking Class fire

Using only fresh products, some of which are cultivated and recently harvested at the Finca´s own garden, Cristina prepares a three course dinner in a clay oven or on an open fire. You may participate in the preparation or just look and taste.

Cooking Class empanadas 3

The cooking class starts with the typical clay oven meat empanadas, learning to make the dough and the stuffing. Then, moving along to the open fire, we will prepare the main course: a rib eye steak with fresh chimichurri -an Argentinian sauce based on Arauco olive oil- and grilled vegetables. Last but not least, caramelized fruit in the clay oven as a dessert.

Cooking Demostration

No need to worry: all the dishes can be made at home in a conventional kitchen and with fresh products that may be found in any place of the world.
