Patagonia Eco Domes

El Chaltén is one of the destinations that watched us grow and became a sort of a cornerstone to our Travellers´culture. Those of us, who had the possibility of marvelling at its landscapes, know that along the way there are lodgings for every need and taste, that range from the most basic to the most sophisticated. Adding good experiences and new things we gave this place to: Patagonia Eco Domes.

patagonia-eco-domes-5Patagonia Eco Domes is located 16kms from El Chalten on route 23 to Lago del Desierto, surrounded by Nature and Mountains. This Eco Glamping is in a beautiful 3 hectares garden whose main attraction are the panoramic views to Cerro Fitz Roy.

patagonia-eco-domes-3It has 7 domes en-suite for 2 people with a private hallway and a “salamandra”(wood-burning stove), all of them with a view to Cerro Fitz Roy, 1 restaurant dome, 1 reception area dome + a living -room and a “Wellness Dome” where our Kallpa girls enjoyed a massage session and yoga lessons at an extra cost since they are not included in the rate. The domes have an alpine and geodesic style. All the domes have a stove to keep the rooms warm which beckons to us every time we come back from any activity in Chaltén . They also have a living-room and a private bathroom with Scottish shower.

patagonia-eco-domesEvery morning we start our day enjoying a gourmet breakfast before starting on our walks. From Patagonia Eco Domes we have free access to a private trail that takes us to Laguna de los Tres. One of the most attractive trails due to the views it offers. You can also reach Piedras Blancas Glacier and others.

patagonia-eco-domes-2Patagonia Eco Domes has a bar and a restaurant with a varied cuisine and a good list of wines. They also have a garden and a solarium. They have no cellphone reception or internet at the premises. The idea is to break away from everyday life and enjoy El Chaltén. One of its most important aspects is the sustainability of electric energy which is provided by solar screens with an independent circuit per dome with a 12 volts power supply.
patagonia-eco-domes-4
We highly recommend the Patagonia Eco Domes as a travel sales offer. It´s new and original and it´s different to other lodgings as well as being the only Glamping Camp in this area.

Important factors to take into account:

Mínimum of pax required: 1

Every dome has a 12 volts independent energy. They have no 220 volts wall sockets. In every dome you´ll find USB plugs to recharge your devices. Should you need a 220 volts recharge you can ask for it at the front desk. Community Domes have solar energy and a 220 volts circuit.

They also have free shuttle services to and from El Chaltén at: 9:30hs and 13hs for Check Out time and at: 12hs and 17hs for Check In time.

The restaurant is available for the guests. If they have any special diets they must inform it in advance.

Patagonia Eco Domes is located in a faraway area. There is no public transport and they do not take Credit Cards, that´s why we recommend to bring enough cash when checking in.

Las Torres Hotel

I wake up after having travelled along the isolated Patagonian Roads.  I spent my first night at Las Torres Hotel and I feel like drawing the curtains to see the views.

It’s 7 o’clock in the morning and it hasn’t dawned yet but I can see the golden light of the sun gleaming over the mountain’s peaks. The vision of the founders of Hotel Las Torres was” to share the warmth of its people and the customs of Patagonia” and this is something you can feel ever since you step into the hotel.

las-torres-hotel-3

The rooms in the hotel are very comfortable. Designed for a nice rest after a good day´s excursion. In a rustic and simple style, the rooms are equipped with central heating system, private bathroom, spring box beds, telephone and wireless internet. they do not have tv sets because the mystique of this place has as a main ingredient you’re getting disconnected from everyday life and getting connected to the natural environment.

I get up early with the idea of trekking all the way to the Torres viewpoint in mind. The location of the Hotel Las Torres is ideal because this is the starting point for this trail.

las-torres-hotel-6
las-torres-hotel-4I am on my way to my first destination, the Coirones Restaurant, where I’ll help myself to a Buffet breakfast and where I check the many gastronomical suggestions for lunch and dinner. Hotel Las Torres produces many of the products they use in its restaurant, since they have their own greenhouses where they grow tomatoes, lettuce and pumpkins among others. they also have an orchard where they grow tasty strawberries, raspberries and cherries. Breakfast is very good and satisfies guests from around the world who have  different food ways of starting their days.

The level of difficulty for the trekking to Torres viewpoint is moderately strenuous and it´s a full day trekking that takes between 7 to 9 hours to complete. At the hotel they provide you with a lunch box and the options to choose from are varied. I picked a tuna roll that was really tasty plus a bottle of water, a bottle of orange juice, a cereal bar and a fruit, all of which I enjoyed sitting facing the Torres del Paine. The sky was clear and the view was hard to compare with by the colour of the lake and the majestic scenery.

las-torres-hotel-1Once  back at the hotel I took a break in the bar and had a drink gazing at the colours of the sunset before heading for the restaurant to taste the Theme Buffet organized by the hotel. This time it was Patagonia’s local delicacies such as roasted lamb and other products that can be found in Chile and mostly grown at the Hotel’s organic orchard.

las-torres-hotel-7

Las Torres Hotel provides you with its own shuttle  service to Laguna Amarga that is one of the Points of Entry  to Torres del Paine National Park as well as  the place where you have to pay for your visitor’s ticket. This is also a Bus stop  for the buses entering or leaving Argentina and Chile.

Las Torres Hotel in Torres del Paine is the best option for those travellers who love comfort and a good rest plus an excellent service and enjoy the adventure that any day might bring by just walking or marvelling at unique views.

Inn Hosteria Senderos

We are now a few minutes away from El Chaltén where we’ll be staying at Inn Hosteria Senderos. After making a stop at La Leona (next to its river, which has the same name) and driving through the emblematic Route Nro 40 we reach Route Nro 23, which allows us to observe from the distance how we are getting closer to the stunning Mt. Fitz Roy.

Before the official arrival at the Bus Terminal it is necessary to make a stop at the National Parks Administration´s Office, where you will receive a briefing on the location and the different activities available, as well as recommendations for your visit to the National Park. This briefing is given to every visitor before they enter at El Chaltén.

inn-hosteria-senderos-4

Finally we arrived at Inn Hostería Senderos, located in front of the Bus Terminal at El Chaltén. It is a cabin made of wood and stone with a typical Patagonian style, designed in the fashion of old estancias of the 1920s

We were warmly welcomed by the owners, who treated us with utter kindness. The lobby area instantly caught our attention with its beautiful fireplace. Passing through a large corridor lies the Restaurant which serves author cuisine´s courses with a Patagonian touch, from Tuesdays to Sundays, and every morning delights their guests with a delicious buffet breakfast.

inn-hosteria-senderos-1After making the check in at the front desk we were escorted to our rooms.Hosteriaa Senderos has a total of 21 rooms. We were provided with rooms which have views to Mt. Fitz Roy (Senderos is one of the few Hosterías at El Chaltén that has rooms with view to Mt. Fitz Roy, allowing travellers to  enjoy the view of a unique and beautiful sunrise). There are no televisions in the rooms: the exquisite views are a show on themselves, as every true lover of nature will surely appreciate. However there is no reason to panic: there is a room for multiple uses where guests will find a 32 inch LCD Tv and a computer with access to internet. Moreover, Senderos has free wifi access in the hole building. Some times there were interruptions with the internet service due to the fact that El Chaltés is a remote location which does not always have good internet connection, but most of the time we did not even notice since we were spending a wonderful time outdoors, walking along the trails that lead to different highlights of El Chalén.

inn-hosteria-senderos

From Hostería Senderos we are really close to the meeting point where most of the treks begin. We highly recommend the Lago Torre Trek or the “Laguna de Los Tres” Trek, of which we will tell you more about in the Newsletters to come.

inn-hosteria-senderos-2
Hostería Senderos is without doubt the point of departure and arrival for your stay at El Chaltén. It is a place which you cannot miss the opportunity of staying during your passing through this beautiful village of the Argentine Patagonia.

Deep into the Misiones Jungle

This month come and join us to penetrate deep into the Misiones Jungle and stay at the Moconá Lodge where peace is in perfect harmony with nature.

 deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-7

The access route into the Saltos de Moconá was still a dirt road. To get to this place was a big challenge that not many people dared to face, but the Moconá Refuge was already a witness to many feats and adventures. This was one of the first undertakings in the Moconá region. Adventurers ,naturalists, guests, neighbours, friends and friends of those friends have dared into this area, who were looking for unforgettable experiences in a unique environment such as the Misiones Jungle.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-8

Moconá Lodge is in the Moconá Refuge, a private reserve with an area of 8000 hectares dedicated to the conservation of the jungle, where 60 hectares are used for touristic purposes. This lodge is located in the heart of the Yabotí Biosphere within a subtropical ecosystem. The days at the Moconá Lodge go by among pathways, waterfalls, indigenous forests, the chirping of birds, natural lookouts, activities full of adventure, old legends that beat to the rhythm of the ripples of the Uruguay River where nature reigns supreme.

The lodge has 14 bedrooms with 28 square meters each with a view to the jungle and to the Yabotí Stream. The rooms are comfortable and integrated, where nature and resting become one.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-9

Every room has a 15 squere meters deck where you can appreciate the flora, the fauna and the Yabotí Stream. Although we disconnect ourselves at the Moconá  Lodge we can get connected to internet. You also have air-condioning,safety box,big sommires and excellent amenities.

As well as the lodging, you´ll also enjoy a good gastronomy with different regional dishes cooked by our Chef using fresh ingredients from our organic orchard.

The breakfast is a buffet with many different freshly squeezed juices, fruits, cereals, dairy products, coffe, tea, breads and all kinds of home-made jellies.

Other good dishes are the activities you can make with an additional cost from the Lodge such as:

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-1

Water excursion: you´ll ride on rubber-boats from the Moconá Refuge pier located on the Yabotí Stream.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungleZip-line and rappel: this circuit combines zip-line high up in the trees, dry rappel, rappel over the Horacio Waterfall and zip-line in the middle of the jungle. We´ll penetrate deep into the jungle in a different way. We´ll live the experience of zip-linig above the tree tops along 250 meters going through the Oveja Negra riberbed and over the famous Horacio Waterfall. We also tested our adrenaline rappeling over the  Horacio Waterfall canyon next to the 20 meters high crystal clear waterfall.

Water trips to the Moconá Waterfalls: we´ll sail along 10kms on the Yabotí Stream and the Uruguay River where you´ll get to experience the jungle in its wildest state, the quietness of the Yabotí Stream and the Moconá Waterfalls.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-3

Interpretive Pathways tours: we´ll disclose the secrets of the jungle along water- rutted pathways spanned by a hanging bridge and the Horacio waterfall. The Oveja Negra(black sheep) pathway in the Moconá Refuge is 2000 meters long and of low impact. During our trips we have been discovering the secrets of the jungle that make it easier to understand the dynamics and the interactions that coexist among the different flora and fauna especies in this kind of ecosystem.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-6

The walking tour takes one and a half hour and is a good way of relaxing and connecting with nature.

High performance trekking: the most demanding people like us challenge tracks longer than 5kms in the jungle.,where we´ll find the vantage point over the “Arroyo Yabotí”(Yabotí Stream). This challenge has as location the Bella Vista pathway which is 5000 meters long and of medium and high impact.

deep-into-the-misiones-jungle-4

Kayak: The best way of experiencing this special connection with the Arroyo Yabotí is riding the “sit on the top kayaks” sailing the waters up to the mouth of the Uruguay River.

During this trip we´ll make a stop for pictures at the Tripartito lookout. The Arroyo Yabotí is one of the most impressive waterways in the Biosphere Reserve.

The water is calm and shallow. This trip lasts around 2 hours.

Excursions on 4WD: To come to a close we visited the Yabotí Biosphere on 4WD vehicles. We rode along roads sprinkled with old saw-mills and timber-yards where the views are strikingly beautiful. All along the way our local tour guides will be with us. We ride through unexplored streams and hills
