Ushuaia is known as the entrance door to the Antarctica and is generally visited in the summer months, but in the winter months offers a landscape especially attractive and a wide offer of winter activities to enjoy.
Cerro Castor is one of the mandatory visits to enjoy of a day of ski. This austral winter center has got 31 ski tracks and trails with different levels of difficulty and a total of 650 skiable hectares with a-800-meter slope. The complex has got 5 means of elevation which correspond to a four-place chairlift and 6 surface lifts: 3 teleskis and 4 magic carpets. This winter center is chosen by several European ski teams for their training given the quality of the snow, its tracks and because it offers the longest ski season in the country. We had the opportunity of seeing Swiss, Austrian and French ski teams.
Other winter centers along the Valle de Tierra Mayor offer the possibility of cross-country skiing, sled rides drove by Huskies and Greyster dogs, racket trekking, snow motor rides along snowy forest woods of lenga beech and antarctica beech (local trees, “lenga” and “ñire”).
We dedicated part of our stay to experience a self-drive in order to discover at our own pace and interest the virgin corners that Tierra del Fuego has to offer. Heading to the Estancia Harberton we saw the curious “flag trees”, we had the opportunity of tasting an exquisite spider crab casserole in a super exclusive restaurant that with only 4 tables offers a selected fish or seafood menu. From this place it is possible to see Puerto Williams with binoculars on the other side of Beagle Channel.
Finally, I would like to mention the unforgettable days at Arakur Hotel. Therefore, we have discovered a different Ushuaia and we have enjoyed of an exquisite local gastronomy and from the wide variety of winter activities that Tierra del Fuego has to offer.
