Posta Cagliero is a mountain refuge located in Estancia Los Huemules, facing the beautiful Cagliero Glacier and the Laguna del Diablo. The trail to access the refuge begins 18 km from El Chaltén, at the Interpretation Center of Estancia Los Huemules. It can only be accessed on foot via a medium to low difficulty trail that lasts approximately 2.5 hours, surrounded by lenga and ñire trees.

Surrounded by the amazing landscapes of Los Huemules reserve and in front of Cagliero Glacier, this refuge offers a cozy shelter to immerse yourself in the peaceful Patagonian wilderness.

To minimize environmental impact, the reserve allows a maximum of 100 visitors per day, making it one of the few places in El Chaltén where you can experience walking alone on a trail, creating a unique and special atmosphere.

For those who wish to explore the three main trails of the Los Huemules Reserve, we recommend starting early from El Chaltén and taking the long route to the refuge, which involves about 18 km of hiking. This route leads to the Río Eléctrico, where you can see the Marconi Glacier, and passes by Laguna Azul and Laguna Verde. From there, you will take the trail to Río Diablo, arriving at the refuge around 5 PM. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with coffee and pancakes, along with the pleasure of a hot shower.

The refuge offers four quadruple rooms and one triple room, all equipped with sheets and towels. Guests can enjoy homemade regional cuisine, perfect for those staying overnight or simply passing through and needing to recharge their energy. The entire refuge is heated by wood stoves, and the hot showers provide extra comfort.

The dining area boasts stunning views of Laguna del Diablo and Cagliero Glacier, making it the ideal place to relax after a beautiful hike while sharing experiences with fellow travelers.

Spending the night at this refuge is a truly special experience. With no surrounding forest, you can enjoy a full view of the sky and stars, accompanied only by the sounds of nature. On clear nights, the reflection of the mountains can be seen in the lagoon, and when the wind blows, you can feel it against the walls and roof of the refuge, connecting you with the power of nature. Posta Cagliero is not just a place to rest, it’s an unforgettable experience.
