Wine tour with Lunch at Casa Vigil Experience

Enjoy a culinary proposal now included in the Michelin Voyage guide.

Located in Chachingo, Maipú, only half an hour away from the city of Mendoza, Casa Vigil has been rewarded with many different international recognitions, and it was distinguished not only for the great preparations you will find on its menu to pair its wines, but also for its originality and local art exhibit. “An attractive and atypical place”, is one of the reviews of the Michelin Voyage guide.

With so many good reviews, surely you´re curious and eager to see and taste for yourself what all this is about. This is definitely an experience that you can’t miss on your visit to Mendoza.

When in town, you will be picked up from your hotel and visit 2 important wine cellars that we will carefully choose for you, before the end of the experience in Casa Vigil, where you’ll visit the cellar where El Enemigo and El Gran Enemigo are made. Alejandro Vigil and his wife Maria live next door, so it is common that he can step in and say hello to all the people who attend the restaurant.

Alejandro Vigil is one of the most prestigious winemakers in Argentina. He has been the main enologist and technical director at Catena Zapata Vineyards for a long time. A few years ago, he started working with Laura Catena and created his own brand, called Aleanna Winery, and introduced to the world his own creation: “El Enemigo”. From its very first impression, the name symbolizes the opposite to the other wine producers that want to join the idea of wine and friendship. However, the creative name given to this wine  “The Enemy” has conquered the market, and broke all the records on the most distinguished review magazines.

He is passionate for the grapevines, the beautifully designed labels, the bottles, all done under his careful supervision. And the same passion is reflected in his own restaurant: Casa Vigil (formerly called El Enemigo), where his guests can savour exquisite local cuisine and its emblem wine.

The visit includes an exquisite gourmet lunch and of course, you won´t leave without tasting some of the house´s internationally prized wines, joined by one of the best wine experts in the world: the staff will guide you through a “Great Enemy” wine tasting experience.

Today we want to share with you a Premium wine tasting, to try the best of the best and delight yourself with regional gourmet tapas, specially made for the occasion.

In the heart of Palermo Soho, one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, home of many bars, restaurants and top designer stores, we find the prestigious Freud & Fahler; a legend of avant-garde gastronomy. Here we´re invited by Diego, Pol and Jorge to experience this VIP tasting.

They are the warming hosts and front men of this business venture. Wine enthusiasts and foodies themselves, each of them play a fundamental role: Diego is the multilingual sommelier in charge; Pol has been Freud & Fahler´s owner and head chef from 20 years now, innovating in gastronomy since its early days; and Jorge is the spokesperson responsible for spreading the word about this exciting touristic experience.

The tasting takes you on a 1500 miles journey, going over Argentina from north to south across the most important wine regions in the country: Mendoza and its classic and historic vineyards, Salta with its high altitude grapevines and the exotic and southernmost Patagonia, as one of the youngest wine producing regions.

Throughout five specially selected premium wines you will discover the particularities, refined details and differences between the varieties of wines of these whereabouts. Not to be missed: Malbec, Torrontés, Pinot Noir, among others.

The experience is completed with a perfect food match: regional gourmet tapas, specially created by the in house chef Pol Lykan. Each bite was thought to emphasize each wine´s unique taste and characteristic profile. Paired in heaven!

Learning to cook empanadas at House of Jasmines

Today’s special: A private class from a master of traditional cooking and the secrets of the famous empanada Salteña

When visitors come to the Argentinian north, there is one dish that everybody loves, and that is the empanada. In this opportunity, you will be able to learn the secrets of this delicious and traditional meal and delight your guests when they come to dinner. The main idea is to provide not only a cooking class but a whole experience that you will enjoy to the fullest.

The appointment is at House of Jasmines, a Maison de Charme located in the outskirts of Salta. Now an inn, this place used to be the residence of actor Robert Duvall until it was purchased and turned into what it is today. The place itself is an invitation to all bon vivant lovers. Surrounded by green hills and eucalyptus trees, House of Jasmines is a true refuge just a few miles away from the city.

Once in the residence, the chef welcomes you in the kitchen and shows you the ingredients that will be used in the preparation, such as flour, grease, meat, potato, onion sprouts, and spices. Then, the action begins with the making of the dough; there are some that say that here is where the true secret of a good empanada lays. When the dough is ready, you will continue with the filling and then, the traditional `repulgue´ (the technique that consists in pinching the edge, crimping, and sealing it). Expert tip: the perfect empanada should have thirteen repulgues (crimps).

The class ends with the cooking of the empanadas and its degustation with a cup of wine from the Salta Valleys in the beautiful La Table (the restaurant of the Inn). Located next to the main house, La Table of House of Jasmines has a view to the hills and a warm atmosphere that invites friends to relax and enjoy good conversation.

If you want to make the best of this visit, you can combine the cooking class with some other activities, such as walking through the garden, horseback riding, or enjoy a massage in the SPA.
